Responses to Reza Aslan’s Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth

Joel B. Green

After an unfortunate television interview, Aslan’s book on Jesus of Nazareth moved into the media spotlight. Most of the popular discussion has focused on Aslan’s Muslim background and scholarly credentials. Fortunately, scholars have begun to address the substance of his reconstruction of the historical Jesus:

  • Stephen Prothero, professor of religion at Boston University
  • Anthony Le Donne, author of The Historiographical Jesus
  • Gary Manning Jr., associate professor of New Testament at Talbot School of Theology
  • Craig A. Evans, professor of New Testament at Acadia Divinity College
  • John Dickson, senior research fellow, department of ancient history, Macquarie University
  • Larry Hurtado, retired professor of New Testament language, literature, and theology, Edinburgh University
